ELFEN LIED APPRECIATION POST

Hej

Today I'm going to write about anime again because I recently watched a really good one. BUT it's really violent and there's nudity, like, boobs everywhere (even if I don't see that nudity like "porn". More like art or something like that) (just warning you).

 Elfen Lied is an anime about  Diclonius, which are a species of evolved humans with two cat-ear like horns and vectors, transparent arms that have the power to manipulate and cut objects within their reach. They're being held in a facility off the coast of Kamakura in Kanagawa, near Yokohama, by a scientist called Kurama. The first of the Diclonius race, a teenage girl named by the staff as "Lucy," escapes, using her vectors to deflect gunfire and effortlessly kill security guards. As she makes her way out of the facility, a sniper shoots her, breaking her metal helmet and she falls into the sea. The next morning, a guy called Kohta is moving to Kamakura to study in a university where he is reunited with his cousin Yuka. They find Lucy on a beach in the area, naked with her head bleeding from the bullet wound and only capable of saying the word "Nyu." Kohta and Yuka decide to take her with them, naming her "Nyu". After that, another Diclonius named Nana and a Special Assault Team task force, led by the violent soldier Bando, are sent to hunt down Lucy. However, Lucy and her cold characteristics have not yet faded away; whenever she hits her head or is confronted with violence, she reverts to her sadistic side and makes transitions between her two personalities throughout the series, the first of which is seen against Bando, who has his eyes poked out, and Nana, who has all her limbs ripped off by Lucy's vectors. Eventually, Kurama decides to repair the bodies of Bando and Nana and send Nana back to Kamakura, contrary to his orders to put her down. Nana and Mayu, a 14-year-old runaway youth who witnessed the confrontation between Bando and Lucy, both end up living in Kohta's household.

GAKKOU NO KAIDAN APPRECIATION POST

Hej  :)

 Today I was searching for an anime called Gakkou no Kaidan because I used to watch this when I was a kid ( I mean, a small kid...OH WAIT ) and I wanted to watch that again. 

Ghost Stories (学校の怪談 Gakkō no Kaidan, literally "School Ghost Stories"), also known as Ghosts at School, is a 20-episode anime series created in 2000 based on a book series by Toru Tsunemitsu.
 The anime starts when Satsuki and  Keiichirou  Miyanoshita move with their father to the hometown of her deceased mother. On their first day of school they meet their neighbor Hajime Aoyama; an older schoolmate called Momoko Koigakubo and Leo Kakinoki, a classmate and friend of Hajime's with a penchant for the paranormal.They visit the abandoned school building adjacent the current school complex and discover that the building is haunted.

It is soon after revealed that Satsuki's mother was responsible for sealing several ghosts who haunted not only the school but also the town, and now they are released due to the urbanization taking place in the surrounding area. Satsuki's mother left behind a book/diary detailing how to exorcise the ghosts once and for all. In her first confront, Satsuki faces a demon called Amanojaku, but in the process Amanojaku is sealed within Satsuki's pet cat, Kaya. Although Amanojaku does not want to help Satsuki at first, the danger soon threatens to envelop the town and it is left up to Satsuki, her friends and Amanojaku to stop the ghosts.

FULL MOON WO SAGASHITE APPRECIATION POST

Hey guys :)
 So, yesterday I was watching Rurouni Kenshin and the website recommended an anime called "
Full Moon Wo Sagashite" aand I remembered that last year a friend of mine lent me the manga :)

 Basically, it's about 12 year-old Mitsuki who wants to be a singer (and she also promised to the boy she loves (Eichi) that she would become one) BUT then she was diagnosed with sarcoma (which is, basically, a cancer, but I'll leave the link there anyway), which is curable only through a surgery that could ruin her vocal cords. One day she was visited by two shinigamis, Meroko and Takuto, and they tell her that she has just one year left to live. Mitsuki convinces them to help her, promising she will go quietly when the time comes. After that she starts her quest to become a singer so she can be reunited with Eichi.

DOGS BULLETS & CARNAGE APPRECIATION POST

 Thursday I posted a pic of one of my friend's mangas and there was a manga called DOGS, which she's currently borrowing me, because reading the real manga/book is way better than reading on the Internet. And here's something about it:

Dogs (狗-DOGS) is a manga series by Shirow Miwa. The manga was first published in 2001 as Dogs: Stray Dogs Howling in the Dark. In 2005, the series began serialization in the manga magazine Ultra Jump as DOGS: bullets & carnage, which continues the storyline. The first part of the series has been adapted into a four-episode OVA.

Manga
 The manga originally began with Dogs: Stray Dogs Howling in the Dark (グッドドッグ・ステイ): a oneshot that was succeeded by Dogs: Bullets & Carnage and serves as a prequel to Dogs: Bullets & Carnage. The manga introduces the four main characters and the majority of the support characters in four chapters that are mostly independent of each other.
 The main storyline is now being presented in the manga Dogs: Bullets & Carnage (ドッグス/バレッツ&カーネイジ ) and continues the adventures of the four main characters. In August 2008, Viz Media announced that it has licensed the manga series and expects to be releasing it in April 2009. The series took a short hiatus and returned in the March issue of Ultra Jump. A oneshot called Dogs: Hardcore Twins introduces Luki and Noki and another one-shot called M.M.M. Works Annex Featuring Badō Nails details a brief glimpse into Badou's past.

Drama CD
 The the original Dogs: Stray Dogs Howling into the Dark volume introducing the main characters was adapted into a Drama CD and released in 2007. A second Drama CD was released on October 23, 2010 and adapted the first volume of Dogs: Bullets & Carnage.

Anime On November 19, 2008, a four-episode OVA adaptation of Dogs was announced in Ultra Jump. The OVA series was produced by David Production and featured the same voice cast as that of the drama CD. It adapted the prequel manga series, Dogs: Stray Dogs Howling in the Dark, with the first DVD volume released on May 19, 2009, featuring Weepy Old Killer and Gun Smoker. The second DVD volume, was initially released on May 29, 2009 for a limited time and was later released on July 17, 2009 for a wide release. The second volume featured Blade Maiden and Stray Dogs Howling in the Dark.

RANDOM INFORMATION: The author Shirow Miwa named Heine Rammsteiner and Badou Nails after the bands Rammstein and Nine Inch Nails, stated as two of the author's favorite bands on his personal site.

NEON GENESIS EVANGELION APPRECIATION POST

Hello :)

 How are you guys doing? I liked it better when I didn't have to study Maths. But that's right, I think I'll be able to finish reading The girl with the dragon tattoo this week. 乂◕‿◕乂 And the Portuguese class today was funny. My friend told the teacher he looks like Sheldon, from The Big Bang Theory LOL he spent the whole class giving examples of isolated phonemes like he Portuguese "ã" and that German "ch" in "ich". It was really funny to see.

 BTW, today I'll write about an anime/manga called Neon Genesis Evangelion which my father doesn't like because it use that religious words. I think it's kinda stupid, because I use this kind of word all the time, and he didn't even watch this, but whatever. :)

Neon Genesis Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン Shin Seiki Evangerion), commonly referred to as Evangelion, is a commercially and critically successful anime series that began airing in October 1995.
Evangelion is an apocalyptic mecha* action series which revolves around the efforts by the paramilitary organization Nerv to fight monsters called Angels, primarily using giant mecha called Evangelions which are piloted by select teenagers,including the primary protagonist.
Events in the series refer to Judeo-Christian symbols from the Book of Genesis, Biblical apocrypha, etc. Later episodes deconstruct the themes and motifs of the mecha genre and shift focus to psychoanalysis of the main characters, who display various emotional problems and mental illnesses. The nature of existence and reality are questioned in a way that lets Evangelion be characterized as "postmodern fantasy". Hideaki Anno, the director of the anime series, suffered from clinical depression prior to creating the series, and the psychological aspects of the show are based on the director's own experiences with overcoming this illness.

DEATH NOTE APPRECIATION POST

Hi :)
 There have been a while since the last time I wrote about anime, right?
Today I'll talk about a well known anime called Death Note. It's about a guy called Yagami Light (people sometimes write "Yagami Raito" because of the Japanese pronunciation) who is one of the smartest people on Japan and he thinks the world is boring and rotten. One day he find a notebook with written instructions: 

1) The human whose name is written in this notebook will die.
2) This notebook will not take effect unless the writer has the subject's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
3) If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the subject's name, it will happen.
4) If the cause of death is not specified, the subject will simply die of a heart attack.
5) After writing the cause of death, the details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

And he actually tries to kill people he thinks don't deserve to live. He encounters the Death Note's previous owner, a shinigami (Death God) called Ryuk and explains his plan of exterminating all the criminals in the world. Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of criminals catches the attention of the International Police Organization and the world-famous detective, "L", who quickly learns that the serial killer,  known as "Kira" (キラ, derived from the Japanese pronunciation of "killer"), is in Japan and can kill people without touching them.

 And then L wants to catch Light and Light wants to catch L.  

And Light is as intelligent as L, which makes everything more exciting  º3º

 Now people stopped with the SOPA thing to talk about ACTA, which is a international treaty and it's worse then SOPA and PIPA.

The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) is a proposed plurilateral agreement for the purpose of establishing international standards on intellectual property rights enforcement. It would establish an international legal framework for countries to join voluntarily, and would create a governing body outside international institutions such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) or the United Nations. Negotiating countries have described it as a response "to the increase in global trade of counterfeit goods and pirated copyright protected works." The scope of ACTA includes counterfeit goods, generic medicines and copyright infringement on the Internet. Groups such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) oppose ACTA, stating that civil society groups and developing countries were excluded from discussion during ACTA's development in an example of policy laundering.

Opponents have argued that the treaty will restrict fundamental civil and digital rights, including freedom of expression and communication privacy. "The bulk of the WTO's 153 members" have raised concerns that the treaty could distort trade and goes beyond the existing Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights. Opponents also criticize ACTA's removal of "legal safeguards that protect Internet Service Providers from liability for the actions of their subscribers" in effect giving ISPs no option but to comply with privacy invasions. According to an analysis by the Free Software Foundation, ACTA would require that existing ISPs no longer host free software that can access copyrighted media, and DRM-protected media would not be legally playable with free or open source software.

ACTA was first developed by Japan and the United States in 2006. Canada, the European Union and Switzerland joined the preliminary talks throughout 2006 and 2007. Official negotiations began in June 2008, with Australia, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, South Korea and Singapore joining the talks. Apart from the participating governments, an advisory committee of large US-based multinational corporations was consulted on the content of the draft treaty, including the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and the International Intellectual Property Alliance (which includes the Business Software Alliance, Motion Picture Association of America, and Recording Industry Association of America). The treaty calls for the creation of an "ACTA committee" to make amendments, for which public or judicial review are not required. Industry representatives may have "consolatory input" to amendments.

ACTA first came to public attention in May 2008 after a discussion paper was uploaded to  Wikileaks . After more leaks in 2009 and 2010 and denied requests for disclosure by groups such as Doctors without Borders, IP Justice, the Canadian Library Association, and the Consumers Union of Japan, the negotiating parties published an official version of the then current draft on 20 April 2010. In June 2010, a conference with "over 90 academics, practitioners and public interest organizations from six continents" concluded "that the terms of the publicly released draft of ACTA threaten numerous public interests, including every concern specifically disclaimed by negotiators." A group of 75+ law professors signed a letter to President Obama demanding that ACTA be halted and changed.

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST APPRECIATION POST

Hi again :)

 It's been a while since the last time I wrote about anime, right? 

Yesterday I thought about Fullmetal Alchemist for some random reason, and now here's the post.

 Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師), is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa. The world of Fullmetal Alchemist is styled after the European Industrial Revolution. Set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques known to man, the story follows the brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, who want to find the  Philosopher's Stone and use it to restore their bodies after a disastrous failed attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy.

 Their father, Van Hohenheim, left home for unknown reasons and years later, their mother, Trisha Elric died of a terminal illness, leaving them alone. After that, Edward became determined to bring her back. They researched Human Transmutation, a forbidden art in which one attempts to create or modify a human being. However, this attempt failed, ultimately resulting in the loss of Edward's left leg and Alphonse's entire body. In a desperate effort to save his brother, Edward sacrificed his right arm to affix Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor. Some days later, an alchemist named Roy Mustang visited the Elric brothers, and proposed that Edward become a State Alchemist of the country in exchange for more research materials to find a way to recover their bodies. After that, Edward's left leg and right arm were replaced with automail, a type of advanced prosthetic limb, created for him by his close family friends Winry Rockbell and her grandmother Pinako.

SPIRITED AWAY APPRECIATION POST

 Sorry, I've been busy :S

But whatever, I remembered this movie and I think it's a good idea to make a post abou it:

Spirited Away (千と千尋の神隠し Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi ) is a 2001 Japanese animated fantasy-adventure film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. The film tells the story of Chihiro Ogino, a sullen ten-year-old girl who, while moving to a new neighborhood and she and her parents become lost and find what appears to be an abandoned amusement park. Chihiro's father insists on exploring it, and she and her mother reluctantly accompany him. Chihiro's parents sample the food at an unattended stall.Chihiro wanders off and finds a grand bathhouse, a boy approaches and warns her to leave before nightfall. When Chihiro runs back to her parents, she finds they have been transformed into pigs, and the park starts to swarm with monsters. Chihiro takes a job working at the bathhouse to find a way to free herself and her parents and escape back to the human world.
Miyazaki wrote the script after he decided the film would be based on his friend's ten-year-old daughter, who came to visit his house every summer. Production of Spirited Away began in 2000. During production, Miyazaki based the film's settings at a museum in Koganei, Tokyo. However, Miyazaki realized the film would be over three hours and decided to cut out several parts of the story for its release. Pixar director John Lasseter, a fan of Miyazaki, was approached by Walt Disney Pictures to supervise an English-language translation for the film's North American release. Lasseter hired Kirk Wise as director and Donald W. Ernst as producer of the adaptation.
The film overtook Titanic (at the time the top grossing film worldwide) in the Japanese box office to become the highest-grossing film in Japanese history. It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Academy Awards, the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival (tied with Bloody Sunday) and is among the top ten in the BFI list of the 50 films you should see by the age of 14. In 2005, Spirited Away was voted the 8th greatest cartoon in Channel 4's 100 Greatest Cartoons poll behind The Simpsons, Tom and Jerry, South Park, Toy Story, Family Guy, Shrek and The Lion King.
